Has your favorite anime website been shut down? It might be
because of the new law that the Japanese government launched in order to prevent
illegal uploads of anime and manga. The Manga-Anime Guardians project is created
to remove any illegal uploads of anime and manga which means the websites that
hosts them will be targeted and forced to shut down.
According to Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and
Industry (METI) over half of anime and manga fans in the United States watch
and reads pirated works, the estimated cost of damage from online piracy is
around $20 billion worldwide. In recent years the pirated websites begun to
earn revenues through advertisements, selling Apps and URL shortners that pay
according to hits. The Manga-Anime Guardians project claims that “They are
exploiting Manga and Anime just for the sake of money,”.
